David grew up in London and has studied in yeshivot and worked for Jewish institutions both in England and Israel.
Inspired by his time teaching at Yeshivat Orayta in the Old City of Jerusalem, David organised and facilitated a Jewish Meditation Retreat in the Peak District together with his rabbinical peers. Hoping to continue to promote a deep and universal spirituality in Jewish observance, David has joined the RTA to further his rabbinical training. He currently serves as a chazan for the Norris Lea Sephardi Minyan and is also training as a Narrative Therapist with the Narrative Therapy Institute in Jerusalem.
Tehilla was born in Israel but raised in London.
She went to Midreshet Tehilla seminary in Jerusalem for two years; upon returning to London she noticed the lack of alternative outlets and therapies in the community. Tehilla currently works with horses and hopes to move forward doing equestrian therapy to help provide support both inside and outside the Jewish community, offering a healthy outlet to anyone that needs it.

Cohort Aleph 2019-2020

Shmully is an alumnus of the RTA’s first rabbinic cohort.
Born and bred in Manchester, he studied in yeshivot in Gateshead and Ramat Beit Shemesh, Israel. He currently works with his wife Tamara as the rabbinic couple for Sutton & District United Synagogue, as well as being a successful youth mentor. Now working for us as Rabbinic Liaison Officer, Shmully’s role is overseeing the schedule by sourcing programme presenters, coordinating with speakers and other organisations to ensure we offer the best we can to our rabbis. Shmully has also taken a leading role on our recruitment campaign, and is our point of contact for potential candidates and any other outside enquiries.
I was born in South Africa and moved to Manchester with my family at the age of 7.
After getting married and living in Israel, we moved back to Manchester where we lived until joining the RTA in 2018. I love hosting and entertaining guests, and in my spare time, experimenting with my artistic skills. I really enjoy the innate health side of the programme and appreciate how the RTA is broadening my understanding of the modern day Jewish world.

I am currently working as a teacher in JFS, teaching all the year groups (besides GCSE) and a range of capabilities.
I am really enjoying the position, though there is a good amount of work that needs to be put in. I am very thankful to RTA for helping me secure this position. I also do occasional work for the United Synagogue which involves being the rabbi of a community that needs a rabbi for that week — leining, sermon, and speaking to community members. The RTA has helped me gain a better understanding of the Jewish and broader community. From talks with local Jewish charities to visiting the Palace of Westminster and a prison, I feel much better suited to helping people with different issues that I may encounter. One of my biggest gains from this programme is my ability to stay calm under pressure. The focus on innate health and wellbeing has started me on a path that I find amazing and am thrilled to be a part of.
Hi I’m Shira Chalk, mum to two little boys (monkeys) and writer of the Tribe Scribe – weekly cartoon on the Parsha in US shuls.
I feel really fortunate to be on the RTA programme; it has been a great opportunity to enrich our rabbinic and communal experience. I have really enjoyed meeting and hearing from diverse members of the community and feel better placed to take this further in any direction. Being part of the RTA has also meant we have a wonderful supportive team, both in the RTA itself and our colleagues on the programme.

Originally from Manchester, I moved to Edgware with my wife and 4 children to join this programme.
My current role is internal as I run the logistics of this programme and work for the RTA office, alongside being a full participant. The RTA has given me a totally new understanding of Torah and of what Hashem expects from us. Practically too, it has been transformative for my mental wellbeing, has strengthened my marriage, and provided clarity and deeper understanding on a broad range of modern day challenges. I feel ready to now go out and make a difference to the world.
I am a wife and a mother of 4 beautiful children.
As well as being a participant of the programme I teach in a local Jewish boys primary school in Edgware. The RTA programme has been a very unique experience for me. It has broadened my outlook and understanding of life. I have become less judgmental and more accepting of people. The 3 Principles learning has also been tremendously helpful in helping me deal with life. It has been well worth the move from Manchester!

I was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York, studying in local yeshivot.
After graduating high school I travelled to Israel where I spent three years furthering my studies in Shaarei Chessed, Jerusalem. I subsequently moved back to America and studied at and received Semicha and Dayanut from the Rabbinical College of America. During that time I also participated in volunteer opportunities, assisting rabbis in various locations around the world, including Thailand, St. Maarten and Puerto Rico. I met my wife Shternie in Brooklyn, where we lived for two years before moving to the UK. We currently reside in Borehamwood with our son Dovber. My passion is learning new things and connecting with new people. The RTA has allowed me to tap into the experience of so many types of people from all different backgrounds. This has strengthened me to be able to assist and service my community in a more productive and devoted manner.
I was born in Leeds and moved with my family to Ilford where my father assumed the position of Rabbi at Beehive Lane United Synagogue.
I attended high school in North West London, then studied in seminary in Tzfat, Israel and Brooklyn, New York. Upon returning to the UK, I received a BSc (Hons) in Psychology with the Open University and a QTS with the London School of Jewish Studies. I followed my passion for teaching and taught in Cambridge, Belgravia, and then three years at Beit Shvidler Primary School. I moved to New York, where I met my husband Levi and had our baby boy Dovber. We now live in Borehamwood. I enjoy teaching children and building relationships.

I was born in Liverpool but moved to NW London shortly thereafter (I am still very much an LFC fan!).
I finished school early (completing my A levels at 16) but decided my passion was the rabbinate and studied for 10 years in the world’s leading institutions such as Gateshead, Yeshivat Heichal Hatorah (R’ Tzvi’s) and The Jerusalem Kollel where I eventually attained three Semichas in different areas of Jewish law. In May 2018, together with Batya and our two kids, I moved to the UK from Israel — where we had been living for 5 years — to join the Rabbinic Training Academy. I am also a trained chazzan and particularly enjoy singing at Jewish wedding ceremonies.
I was born and bred in Manchester.
I taught Jewish Studies at Broughton Jewish Primary School, absolutely loving my time there. After getting married to Akiva and moving to Israel, I studied in Jerusalem at Shelem College of Complementary Medicine and in 2016 fully qualified as a massage therapist and reflexologist. Despite being a full-time mother, I set up a massage salon in Jerusalem which proved very popular. I feel very fortunate to have learned more about the human experience by delving deep into the 3 Principles understanding of mental wellbeing — that there is health, resilience and creativity inside every human being no matter what their circumstances or past. The support I have received on this programme is beyond what is normal. The course will help anyone who wants to enjoy being of service to people. I feel very lucky to have been able to join.

I was born in South Africa in 1991, relocated to Israel in 1993, and settled in London with my family in 1998.
I returned to Israel in 2009 to study in yeshiva, where I remained until 2018, returning to London with my wife and three children. Whilst studying in Israel I was involved in teaching at Yeshivat Ohr Sameach (a yeshiva for beginners) and Yeshivat Neve Tzion (a yeshiva for teens at risk). I received my rabbinic ordination from the Jerusalem Kollel in 2017 from Rav Yitzchak Berkovits. The RTA has really helped me get on my own feet, guiding me with so much support in my role as a rabbi, and has given me an understanding of the Three Principles of innate health, which has been extremely helpful!
I was born in London in 1991 and grew up and attended school in North West London.
I attended Hasmonean School and subsequently went to Michlala Seminary for girls in Jerusalem. I returned to London after a year in Israel and read Psychology at City of London University. I am a highly talented educator and excel in understanding and building communities. As a couple, we are extremely passionate about giving back and helping build future communities, and so came back to live in Welwyn Garden City to help this small community reach its potential. I feel so privileged to be part of the RTA family. It’s been so helpful — having the opportunity to hear all different types of speakers and to understand the principles of Innate Health and life in a clear and simple way. It’s been really nice to be part of a group of amazing women and I have made some real friends!
